Misfortune for Lucky 13, Hoodline reports. The 27-year-old bar on Market Street, recently described by the Chronicle as a "down-and-dirty roadhouse," has closed its popular patio.

Lucky 13's bar manager Martin Kraenkel confirmed that the bar was forced to temporarily shut down its fenced off chain-smoking zone on Friday. Two Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control inspectors came in to the bar, citing licensing issues associated with serving alcohol outside. The bar has reportedly made use of its patio since the early '90s.

“Lucky 13 is trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, especially with the weather being so nice like this right now and people wanting to sit outside,” Kraenkle said.

The bar at 2140 Market was most recently in the news this March when it surfaced that the Planning Department had received plans for condos at the site which called for razing the bar. However, prior plans to remove the bar in favor of a three-story building with 28 condos and an underground garage were drafted in 2002 but later abandoned, in part because the site has claimed that it's a historic space.
