Dog bites man. It's a tale as old as time. But in this telling, something different took place. The man was a cop at the US Mint, and as Hoodline and the Chronicle report, the man shot and wounded the dog, who is expected to survive.
According to authorities an 11-month-old pit bull named Blue chased a mint employee and at least two other people near the facility which produces decorative coins. Blue had apparently run away from his home near the US Mint along with another pit bull named Luna, probably before 6 a.m.
It remains unclear what behavior he exhibited, but Blue's owner swears he's never seen aggression from his young, energetic pup. "He doesn’t even know how to snarl,” said owner Dirk Tacke, a 62-year-old man. “He hops, he doesn’t run," said Tacke. "He’s just a puppy. It’s like shooting a child.”
City Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Deb Campbell noted that Blue was being treated by veterinarians for a gunshot wound to the leg, which may be amputated.
