Slightly sad news for neighborhood fans of chef Ryan Farr's meats and sausages at his two-and-a-half-year-old 4505 Meats butcher shop at Mission and 15th. As the Inside Scoop reports, Farr is closing the shop on July 26 in order to focus on his runaway success of a Divisadero restaurant, 4505 Burgers & BBQ, as well as 4505's ongoing farmers' market presence and wholesale operation. On the bright side, the place will reopen a week later under the brand of similarly minded sustainable meat company, Belcampo, which has been seeking a Mission location and currently has a shop and restaurant on Polk Street.
Belcampo CEO Anya Fernald says the Mission location, which will open August 1, will be a a "low key neighborhood butcher shop" with meat products from their sustainable farm based at the foot of Mount Shasta in northern California (the same place they're hosting those meat camps for women and gay men this summer). Also, there will be addition of pre-made, re-heatable meals.
Farr says the decision to close was difficult, but it relates to the loss of use of a commissary kitchen that supplied the butcher shop. 4505 Meats and those popular bacon-studded hot dogs continue to be available at the Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays, and at Whole Foods.
