Interesting news from the food scene today: The opening chef at Alta CA, Yoni Levy, who left the restaurant in April, has popped back up in the kitchen at Outerlands, signaling what could be another era of deliciousness at the hip Outer Sunset spot. As Eater reports, Levy is taking over lunch and dinner at the restaurant, leaving pastry chef Brooke Mosely in charge of breakfast and weekend brunch, as well as still baking the restaurant's signature bread.

Levy says it was the bread, in fact, that partly drew him to the place — but it should also be noted that this move creates sort of a full circle from the Daniel Patterson empire. Former Outerlands chef Brett Cooper departed there last year only to get snapped up by Patterson, now serving as executive chef at his own spot in the Mission, Aster (owned by Patterson). And now Levy, who worked for Patterson at Alta, slides in to fill Cooper's shoes.

Since Cooper's departure, Outerlands has been run by a varying crew, including Greg Kuzia-Carmel who lasted through last summer, and then with Mosely running the show ever since.

For his part, Levy says, "I'm not [coming to Outerlands] to change the structure, because it's a huge success and a beautiful place with good energy. I don't want to change that, I just want to add to it."

He promises that his pastrami, featured prominently at Alta along with other Jewish/Eastern European-influenced fare, will likely be making appearances, and so will his falafel.
