Whoa! 3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes East Bay

Did you guys feel that one? According to the USGS, a magnitude 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit near Concord at 3:13 p.m, followed up less than a minute later with a 2.7 aftershock.

The quake was initially reported to have a magnitude of 4.0, but was downgraded by the USGS about an hour later.

According to the Internet-sourced Did You Feel It? map, it was felt throughout the Bay Area, though it wasn't a particularly strong temblor in the first place. USGS also reports that it had a depth of 9 miles.

One reader from San Francisco in the Richmond District told SFist that, "It felt like when a truck drives by but no truck drove by and it lasted slightly longer." There are no reports of injuries, and the only damage might have been a ruptured water main in Walnut Creek, which officials cannot definitively say was caused by the quake.

Less than 12 hours ago, residents in Los Angeles were woken up at 4:07 a.m. by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake that hit the Baldwin Hills. No damage or injuries were reported in that one either.
