Pizza lord Tony Gemignani, who opened Tony's Pizza Napoletana in 2009, seems to have a lot of projects in the oven. With 13 pizzerias from here to Las Vegas, the new Slice House By Tony Gemignani is the pizzaiolo's newest fast-casual spot, and it's now open in the former Ironside space at 2nd and Townsend Streets.

Gemignani, who is president of the World Pizza Champions, is fluent in styles from Sicilian to Chicagoan (the latter he showcases at Capo's, which like his original restaurant, is located in North Beach). Therefore it's no surprise that Slice House has a menu with nods to New York, Sicilian and grandma style (thick crust and square) pizzas. He's maybe even invented a new California style, it would seem, called "Artisan Ancient Grain Pizzas" made from a blend of "Tony's California Artisan Type 00 Flour," spelt, semolina, sprouted grain and whole wheat flours. Also expect subs, panini on housemade foccacia, and housemade pastas on the full menu here.

Certainly there's a glut of new places to eat near AT&T park, from The Yard with Off The Grid Trucks and an Anchor beer garden to — also open today — Marlowe Burger. Slice House will be another option, with a more limited menu during ballgames to keep things moving breezily and extra hours after games.
