Another day, another person nabbed while trying to breach the White House, right? The most recent incident, a brazen attempt to scale the fence on the south side of the White House complex on Sunday night, comes with a Bay Area connection: the suspect is a 54-year-old man from the Hayward.
According to DCist, at around 10:25 last night, U.S. Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary says that the man, identified this morning as Jerome R. Hunt of Hayward, was arrested after climbing the fence with what they initially believed was a "suspicious package" on his person.
Though the package proved to be harmless, CNN reports that Hunt did manage to get all the way over the fence before he was "arrested by USSS Uniformed Division Officers," a Secret Service spokesperson says.
"The person is in custody, and charges are pending," Leary says. Hunt is scheduled to be arraigned today, and is expected to face a charge of unlawful entry.
