[Update] A previous version of this story noted several street closures, but in fact, there will only be a traffic diversion on Fell Street to northbound Stanyan Street, effectively shutting down Kezar Drive in the westbound direction according to Park Station Sgt. Ron Meyer
For the annual pot-pocalypse known as 4/20, the SFMTA will divert Fell Street in the northbound direction toward Stanyan Street between 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., effectively closing Kezar Drive in the westbound direction.
"We got a number of complaints from neighbors for the road closures [last year]," Board of Supervisors President London Breed tells SFist, "but it's unfortunately necessary and the police decide that, so I'm supportive of it." In a press release, Breed notes writes that "Traffic will be a nightmare. Please avoid the area if you can."
There will also be increased parking enforcement, Supervisor Breed warns, "There will be plenty of parking control officers out. It's a Monday, and there are a lot of areas with no parking, so people should pay very close attention to where they're parking." Or, she counsels, don't drive at all: "We want to try and discourage people from driving into the area, because it's a workweek, and there will be a lot of people coming home."
Breed also noted that, as far as the festivities go, "kids who are under 18 shouldn't be out there... We're really going to be focusing on minors." And everyone take note: "There'll be a lot of undercover folks out there as well."
But ultimately Breed sounds proud of the city's ability to be accommodating. "This demonstrates to me what kind of a place San Francisco is," she says, "We have done a lot of work and spent a lot of money to make sure that people are safe. Last year our police chief said 'be cool, and its cool,' and I second that."
