In her first Bay Area concert date in over 30 years, great diva Aretha Franklin has just booked a show for August 10 at Oakland's Oracle Arena. Goldenvoice just announced the show with tickets going on sale on Friday, March 13 at 10 a.m. American Express pre-sales start on Wednesday, March 11, and there's also an internet pre-sale on Thursday.
The 72-year-old Franklin is touring to promote her 2014 album Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics, on which she did that pretty stellar cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" which I'm posting again here. She's joined on this tour by "special guest" Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds.
As the Chron notes, the Queen of Soul became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. And she "performed at the inaugurations of Presidents Bill Clinton, in 1993, and Obama, in 2009; and canceled a string of concerts after suffering an undisclosed ailment, in 2010 and again in 2013." In an AP interview in 2013 she said she had made a "miraculous recovery" and was almost 100 percent healed. Her current tour began last summer with a show at Radio City Music Hall.
And just as a reminder, I'll leave this right here.
