A small airplane lost power as it took off from the Hayward airport Sunday afternoon, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in a golf course.
Skywest Golf Course is right next to Hayward Executive Airport and the pilot managed to land right by a paved road in the course shortly after taking off. Hayward firefighters were alerted to the incident at 12:45 p.m. According to the Chronicle, the pilot escaped unharmed and there were no reports of any injuries on the ground.
A spokesman with the Hayward Fire Department says less than 10 gallons of fuel leaked from the plane but did not become a threat. Firefighters were able to clean up the mess. The FAA is investigating the incident.
