Opening tonight in San Francisco is the first touring production of the 2013 Tony Award-winning Best New Musical, Kinky Boots, direct from Broadway where it's still playing to sellout crowds. Adapted from the 2005 British film of the same name, and with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper — who holds the honor of being the first woman to win the Best Original Score award on her own, without a writing partner — it tells the true story of a downtrodden shoe factory owner who decides to remake his business as a niche producer of custom ladies footwear for drag queens.
