A mugging near Duboce Park turned fatal early Monday morning, when a group of robbers shot one of their victims in the torso, police say.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, three men in their early 20s were walking near the intersection of Noe and Henry Streets, which is just south of Duboce Park at 12:38 this morning.
They were approached by a five men, one of whom drew a gun and pointed it at the group of three. Another man then took a smartphone, wallet and backpack from the group of three, then shot one of them in the torso.
Witnesses say that they heard the men crying for help, and called 911. Though the shooting victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, he died on the way there. He has yet to be identified by the San Francisco Medical Examiner's office.
The five muggers fled the area in what police described only as a "dark colored sedan." They did not provide any additional details on the suspects, nor have they made any arrests.
This slaying is San Francisco's 36th homicide of 2014.
