BART service was shut down for hours Monday between their East Bay stations of Pleasant Hill and Pittsburg/Bay Point while their police officers investigated reports of "blood and possible human remains" on the tracks.
According to BART spokesperson Alicia Trost, a call was placed to police at 8:50 this morning, notifying them of the possible remains on the tracks between Concord and North Concord stations. BART police reported to the scene, and shut down the trackway for a full investigation.
Trost notes that BART police previously received reports of a person walking on the tracks in that area at around 4:45 this morning. She says that BART police went out at that time to search the area and didn't find anyone, "but it was still dark at that time." Police returned at daylight and checked the area again, and still didn't see anything suspicious.
Trost doesn't know if the two incidents are related, but "wanted to note it."
At 10:26 a.m., Trost updated media, saying that she could confirm that it was, indeed, a human body on the tracks.
As BART wasn't running past Pleasant Hill during the police investigation, a bus bridge was established between Pleasant Hill and Bay Point Stations, and was up and running as of 11:09 a.m. By 12:17, BART service had resumed, Trost says.
