A double shooting in one of San Francisco's public housing projects claimed the life of one man and has left another hospitalized, a San Francisco Police Department spokesperson says.
At 9:33 Friday night, SFPD officers went to Nichols Way, a street in the Alice Griffith Housing Complex, after their ShotSpotter system issued a report of gunfire in the area, SFPD spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza says.
When officers arrived, they "located a male adult victim with upper body wounds," Esparza says. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, "where he later died of his injuries," Esparza says.
Meanwhile, a second victim of the shooting had found his own transportation to SF General, traveling by "private car" to the hospital while suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. That man is expected to survive, Esparza says.
According to the Chron, "a large crowd...gathered in the aftermath of the shooting," sending a "large number of officers" to the scene. The crowd dispersed without incident, Esparza says.
Esparza could not provide any suspect information, and said that no arrests had been made. As always, he urges anyone with information on this shooting to call SFPD at 415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the start of the message.
