It was a glorious Labor Day weekend on the west side of San Francisco. Sunny and warm, a great weekend to hit Ocean Beach. Maybe the warm breezes were enough to make some people forget that they were in treacherous waters? That's why, perhaps, the San Francisco Fire Department was called out more than once to save people who'd bitten off more than they could chew near the Cliff House.

SFFD made one of at least two trips to the Cliff House area at 3:18 p.m. on Sunday, when two men who'd taken a low-tide stroll to a small outlet under the Cliff House were trapped as the water inevitably began to rise.

It took firefighters about an hour to rescue the two men, who were reportedly damp but uninjured when brought back to dry land.

The fire department was back in the same area Monday at 1:13 p.m., when reports came in that a swimmer was "in distress" in the waters near the restaurant.

According to KRON4, while park rangers were searching for the swimmer, "a surfer came across him and helped him to the shore."

According to KRON, SFFD and Coast Guard crews continued their search, unaware that the man had been rescued. Two lifeguards even found themselves in peril as they braved rip currents looking for the man, who, unbeknownst to them, was already safe on dry land.

Eventually, rescuers and the rescuee connected, and the 22-year-old swimmer, who said he got "caught in a drift and swept too far out to sea to get back on his own," was checked out and released by paramedics.
