Filmmaker Walter Thompson is asking a question that's on a lot of San Franciscan's minds:
"The tech industry is transforming housing and transportation in San Francisco, but are we on a sustainable path?"
His forthcoming documentary, Golden City, combines data and individual stories to explore how the tech boom is changing the city, and highlight the tension it creates.
Thompson himself is a tech worker who moved to San Francisco in 1996, during the first dot-com boom, as he explains on his Indiegogo page where he's working to raise $50,000 to produce the documentary.
To provide a wide variety of viewpoints, Thompson plans to interview tech workers, displaced tenants, longterm residents, landlords, politicians, dog walkers, sex workers, and more, and will organize meet-ups to generate discussion. Follow the project on its Facebook page.
