Waaay back in the mid-90s, the pioneering, twisted sketch comedy show Mr. Show aired on HBO for three years, and produced some classic moments from the minds of David Cross and Bob Odenkirk including "Change for a Dollar" and "GloboChem." They also managed to predict, nearly twenty years ago, the notion of a multi-billion-dollar theme-park makeover for San Francisco in which a global conglomerate (GloboChem) buys the city, relocates its citizens, and remakes it as "the world's largest family-friendly theme park city." Attractions at New San Francisco include Hippieland, which features Woodstock, The Movie, The Ride, "a three-day roller-coaster ride featuring the original members of Sha Na Na." Also, there's Bachelorland, in the Castro, obviously.
Things may not be this bad yet, but as Mission Mission notes, the jokes are pretty "prescient" what with the nudity ban, strollers in the Castro, and American Apparel and RVCA in Haight Ashbury.
