Above Van Ness Avenue, the formerly nondescript 100 Van Ness is getting a facelift to become a 399-unit apartment building with a rooftop garden. Sometime in the past 24 hours, however, the 400-foot building got a bold artistic addition in the form of one graffiti artist's four-story tag.

The illegal artwork, that we imagine required some light trespassing to accomplish was in the process of getting scrubbed by the time reader Josh B. sent us the above photo this afternoon. A slightly earlier photo on SocketSite shows the full tag appears to spell out "ELMS."

Anyhow, if you happen to spot someone with a backpack full of rattle cans and a climbing harness, give them some respect and/or get out of the way of their chutzpah.
