I know. Life is rough living in the most gorgeous, sought-after, vibrant, well fed, and expensive city in the country, especially when it comes to the weather. Most summers we suffer beneath blankets of fog, and we talk about it a lot, and tell Facebook how terrible it is, and hunker down for another July 4th where fireworks disappear as soon as they shoot from their cannons. And then, when we get a heatwave, there are more gripes, because we're just not used to sweating on the street and it feels downright weird. But deal with it, people. Bask in it. You're not going to get another week of glorious heat like this for months, maybe.

Actually, according to this extended forecast, we might be seeing some fog-free evenings and sweat-stained afternoons well into next week and Memorial Day weekend, which is par for the course in May. But it will end. Mark my words. The cool ocean breezes will kick up. The heat from the valley beyond the Oakland-Berkeley Hills will suck it all in and before you know it we'll be shivering again an pulling out the scarves in June.

So it's time to make plans for after-work picnics and mid-week jaunts to Marin. This current wave peaks on Wednesday and by Friday things will be back to normal, with a breeze, and temps hitting the 70s. Keep shades drawn and windows open to keep the air moving through your houses, and it might be wise to stock up on ice today — there will probably be a run on ice at your corner store by tomorrow, because everyone will be making cocktails and mocktails and even icing their Chablis. And play hookie if you can! This is one of those rare times of year when everyone's going to be lustily out in the streets, wearing shorts and the skimpiest of summer dresses, looking for trouble and a tall drink to sip on.

People in the East and South Bays are going to be seeing triple-digit temperatures, but luckily some of them have air conditioning. For the rest of us, it's going to be all about sweating it out together, staying hydrated, and listening to summery tunes.
