Over the weekend, Caltrans crews moved the final San Francisco exit on Doyle Drive — the last one before drivers are forced to take in the scenic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and suddenly thrust upon Marin County. The change in traffic pattern led to at least one cringe-worthy moment, caught on tape by a CBS5/KPIX reporter out looking for a story.
The exit was only moved about 1,000 feet, the Chronicle reports, but this morning drivers who nearly missed the new, earlier exit were trying to shoot across multiple lanes of traffic to make it. Around 7 a.m. this morning a gray Toyota Prius was hit by another Prius as the driver tired to make the illegal turn:
Paramedics responding to the accident treated three people at the scene and one person had to be taken to a nearby hospital but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The exit change is part of the Doyle Drive reconstruction project which is expected to be completed in 2016. The exit that shifted, however, will be moved again in about a month, at which point we can expect the local news crews to head back out for another standup.
