Billed as a "substance-free" (that means drugs, dummy) and family-friendly event, tonight's celebration of Transgender Day of Visibility (TDoV) is an evening of performances and speakers to be enjoyed by anyone supportive of the trans community.

According to organizers, TDoV is an annual international event "dedicated to celebrating transgender/ gender non-conforming people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide." San Francisco's first annual celebration of the holiday starts at 5 PM at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center.

"TDoV exists to build community, celebrate what we have accomplished, and inspire future change," event organizers say.

Emceed by Nikki Calma, expect performances from musicians Shawna Virago, StormMiguel Florez, and Star Amerasu, as well as community speakers from groups as diverse as Wells Fargo and Good Vibrations.
