Some thieves went after some quick Christmas cash in a most dramatic fashion last night, using a van to rip an ATM off of a concrete pillar at Fillmore and Jackson and then high-tailing it toward the Bay Bridge.
This all happened at about 3:45 a.m. They succeeded in getting the ATM free, despite it being bolted into concrete, but they didn't succeed in making it all the way to the East Bay.
As CBS reports, the suspects made it as far as Treasure Island on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge before they saw they were being pursued by cops. They then spun around and headed back toward S.F. on the eastbound deck, and exited at 5th and Bryant.
The suspects managed to evade capture still, despite an effort by the SFPD to stop the vehicle. The van sped toward Potrero Hill where the suspects dumped it at 19th and Missouri and fled the scene without being captured. Police were able to recover the ATM.
As always, police are looking for anyone with information about the suspects. Call 415-558-8090, or the anonymous line at 415-885-5187, orby text message at TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
