More horrific news from the city of Richmond. This week three teenage boys — one 15 and two 17 — were arrested for allegedly raping two teenage girls at an East Bay Park. The attacks occurred on the night of November 29 in a picnic area in Alvarado Park off McBryde Avenue.
The suspects, according to Oakland Tribune, gave the girls enough booze for them to pass out. "The girls, ages 14 and 17, woke up the next day and realized they had been sexually assaulted." The boys were arrested on Wednesday and booked on charges of "suspicion of rape, oral copulation, rape in concert with others and conspiracy."
In related news, as the Tribune goes on to point out, this week the trail begins for the man believed to be the ring leader in a 2008 gang rape of a Richmond woman. It is believed she was beaten and raped for being a lesbian. Humberto Salvador, 36, stands accused of 14 felony counts including kidnapping, gang rape, carjacking, and other hate crimes. The details of awful/far too common. While attacking the victim, the suspects allegedly hurled anti-gay slurs at the victim. According to ABC 7, "Photos displayed in court of her car showed that it was adorned with rainbow stickers symbolizing gay pride and a rainbow-colored teddy bear sat on the dashboard."
