Get out your sheet music, all ye showpeople. It's audition time for S.F.'s ever so long-running, ever-changing, pop-culture- and political-referencing revue Beach Blanket Babylon, so now's your chance to become a paid performer in the Bay Area. On Saturday, September 21 at 1:30 p.m. the BBB people will be auditioning male and African American female singers to be full-time cast members.
The auditions will take place at Club Fugazi (678 Beach Blanket Babylon Boulevard, a.k.a. Green Street).
Per the release:
All auditioners should be prepared to sing one ballad and one up-tempo number (preferably rock or pop). An accompanist will be provided, but auditioners must bring their own sheet music (in their key) along with a current résumé and photo. Dance shoes are optional. Beach Blanket Babylon offers competitive salary, full medical benefits (health and dental), as well as paid vacations and sick leave.
You don't need an appointment, however they suggest expediting the check-in process by emailing your resume and head shot ahead of time to [email protected] by 6 p.m. on Friday, September 20. Otherwise, you can just bring your stuff the day-of. Those who can not attend the audition can submit a video of no longer than 2 minutes of their best singing performance via the above email address.
The show, in case you didn't know, is the longest running musical review in the country (or, possibly, "in theatre history" according to them), having started in 1974, and they do 7 shows a week, Wednesday through Sunday, with matinees and evening performances on weekends.
Now where did we put our well worn copy of Essential Audition Songs For Male Vocalists?
