Many of you received a frantic Amber Alert on your phones Monday night. This sent a lot of folks into fantic herd mode online, with scores chiming in on Twitter and Facebook. The Amber Alert in question was sent out because sheriff's detectives in San Diego County are looking for a 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio suspected of killing a woman and kidnapping her two children.

The alert read: "Boulevard, CA AMBER Alert UPDATE: LIC/6WCU986 (CA) Blue Nissan Versa 4 Door."

CHP sent out an alert, fearing that the suspect may be heading up North or to Texas.

They added that the Amber Alert has gone statewide. You can keep up with this particular case at the CHP website.

The Associated Press wrote a story about the program that sends Amber Alerts to your cell phone and All Things D published a piece earlier this year about the widespread alert system rolled out by FEMA. The alerts were used in February during Hurricane Sandy.

Also, if you must, you can opt out of notification on the iPhone by going to the bottom of Notifications under Settings where you will find Government Alerts and Amber Alerts.
