The big food news of last week, besides the opening of The Cavalier and SF Chefs, is that much loved, 11-year-old French bistro Chez Spencer is going to reopen in a new location, hopefully by the end of the year. Chef-owner Laurent Katgely, whom some of you may have caught on the first season of The Great Food Truck Race with his Spencer-on-the-Go truck, has found a new spot at 3376 18th Street where he hopes to reopen by late November.
The location at 82 14th Street suffered a major fire on May 31 that Katgely determined could not be recovered from. He'll instead be doing a more upscale, prix-fixe-focused restaurant in the new space with just 30 seats, offering three-, five- and eight-course menu options each night. And in the front of the space will be an all-day cafe dubbed Spencer-on-the-Go, which will occasionally feature Chez Spencer classics.
Katgely tells the Chron that he "just want[s] to have fun" with the new space and tweaked concept, and promises it will be more intimate than before.
