The University Avenue overpass near Interstate 80 in Berkeley was the site of a fatal early morning hit and run accident.

At 5:10 a.m. this morning, a police officer encountered the victim on the westbound side of the overpass. The man died at the scene. Police have no witnesses to the accident, and the victim's name has not yet been released.

The freeway ramp was closed until about 10:40 this morning, when it reopened to traffic.
