The strike enters day 2 after BART and its unions failed to return to the table, neither side agreeing on a budget. And once again, long lines wait those who rely on Bay Area Rapid Transit. Traffic jams, crowded city streets, and early morning rises are also a byproduct of the bullheadedness.

Although the congestions isn't as bad as it could be, it's still a headache. Local traffic reporters are saying that, as of 7:30 am, traffic isn't as sluggish as it was on Monday.

Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, member of the Assembly Transportation Committee and a former member of the Bay Area’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission, voiced his frustration with the impact of the breakdown, saying in a statement: "BART is too important to play games. I call on BART negotiators to come back to the bargaining table and make a fair contract offer - one that’s fair to the workers and keeps the system running." (Also, FWIW, when he was a supervisor, he was also a regular public transit user. We often saw him commuting on the 14 each morning back in the day.)
