The body of Michael Roberts, 56, was found floating near the Vallejo Municipal Marina on Monday afternoon, near his boat and in an area where he loved to fish. He was also a San Francisco Sheriff's Deputy.
Authorities from the Coast Guard, Vallejo Police Department and Solano County Sheriff’s Office had searched for Roberts with a helicopter, by boat and with a dive team," reports SF Appeal. "The boat was found with keys in the ignition and there was a cellphone onboard."
According to Mercury News, Roberts, who lived in Hercules, "had last been seen Sunday." Police do not suspect foul play in his death. No word yet on how exactly he died.
Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi released a missive about his department's tragic loss, saying, "On behalf of the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the U.S. Coast Guard, the Solano County Sheriff's Office and the Vallejo Police Department for their assistance. Please join me in conveying our deepest sympathy to the family of Deputy Roberts and all those who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him."
