Taken in Joseph D. Grant County Park, Santa Clara County, California, USA. I set up my Nikkor 40mm f/2.8 (w/ 1.4x teleconverter) on the edge of a meadow full of wildflowers and waited. And waited. And waited. After seeing the weeds flutter, I saw several females of this species come through this dirt mound, quickly. Then this male came through and set himself up on the dirt mound in an overwatch position, looking for danger while the females fed. It was quite impressive, even through a long telephoto lens.
