Longtime freelance photographer for the Oakland Tribune, Lionel “Ray” Fluker, was shot Friday night near his home at Seminary Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 54-year-old Fluker had been taking photos for the paper since 1995, when he began as a photography intern. He had also had an engineering career.
The shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. Friday, and Fluker appears to have been struck by a stray bullet.
The Tribune has put up a slideshow of some of Fluker's best images over the years.
