Noted thespian Sean Penn attended the state funeral of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez on Friday, who died this week due to health-related issues. Penn was joined by Reverend Jesse Jackson, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra director Gustavo Dudamel, and presidents from regional countries.
As a guest speaker, Jackson said “We gather today not because Chavez died, but because he lives. Venezuela cries today. God, reassure them. Venezuela is not left alone." He also also God to provide acting President Nicolas Maduro the "wisdom and support as he keeps hopes and dreams alive."
Chavez died on March 5 after a nearly two-year bout with cancer. He was 58.
