Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer isn't just unhappy with her company's on-hold music. Now she's had it up to here with remote workers who don't come in to the office but still draw payroll from the company's coffers.
According to an SF Chronicle source "familiar with Mayer's thought process on the matter," many of Yahoo's work-from-home employees are unproductive and hiding out from their responsibilities, which reveals a questionable level of accountability and management company-wide. "There were all these employees [working remotely] and nobody knew they were still at Yahoo."
Mayer's message? Come in to work at Yahoo's offices or quit the company. Apparently she thinks a meaningful number of employees will take her up on it and leave Yahoo, freeing up some payroll money to ease the company's financial woes. According to the source, "It's a layoff that's not a layoff."
