Brian Wilson, the noted closer with a magical beard, is a free agent now, which means he might leave the Giants next season. He could even sign with the Mets, as hinted at over the weekend by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
"Mets GM Sandy Alderson was in Los Angeles Saturday and watched a private workout by Wilson, who is attempting to come back from his second Tommy John surgery," notes NY Daily News.
"I was there. I watched him throw,” Alderson said. “There’s not much more to say than that."
Ok then.
We should point out, though, that the Giants are also interested in keeping Wilson. In addition to his brute force on the mound, Wilson's personality and comedic stylings are now legendary and very much part of Giants lore. He even travels to practice looking like Marty McFly. You just can't put a price tag on that kind of showmanship. (He also sold his soul in 2011 after shilling for Ed Lee's bizarre mayoral campaign.) But we won't make any judgment calls until we hear what Grant Brisbee has to say. Until then...
