A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death in the wee hours of New Year's Day at the intersection of Third Street and Ingerson Avenue in the Bayview.
The victim has been identified as San Francisco resident Walter Smith, and he was was found around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at S.F. General. No arrests have been made in the case.
This was the first homicide of the new year, and the Appeal's homicide map has been reset, with a lone #1 map marker.
And this doesn't auger well for the end of last year's wave of knife crime.
