Rain will continue to pummel the Bay Area throughout the week. The Department of Public Works offers free sandbags for San Francisco residents showing proper ID. Free sandbag pick up is at 2323 Cesar Chavez Street (at Kansas). Both filled and unfilled sandbags are available at no cost and there is a limit of 10 sandbags per address.

Again, residents must show a valid ID with San Francisco residence. You can get your bags Monday thru Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. You also need to load them into your vehicle yourself.

Oakland residents can score up to 20 free sandbags and 50 feet of plasticsheeting [PDF] at the Municipal Service Center at 7101 Edgewater Drive from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

And Berkeley residents can typically find free sandbags at their local fire station. However, since they run out quickly, you might want to call your neighborhood fire station in advance.
