Sometimes you go into labor, and it all happens way too fast. Not that we'd know. But that's what happened to Kimberly Thomas of Oakland, whose baby son was waiting for no trip to the hospital to shoot headfirst right out of her at a Shell gas station near the Oakland Zoo.
Thomas just said she was feeling a little "pain" Friday night when she decided she probably needed to get to the hospital. That baby could not wait for the short drive to Kaiser, however, and her contractions were quickly two minutes apart.
Luckily, police officers Charles Stone, Jeffhry Cid and Sean Bowling were all nearby, and Cid happened to be a former registered nurse. The three men, along with the boy's father, Barry Miller, delivered the baby lickety split on Friday night at the Shell gas station at 9750 Golf Links Road, which is near the zoo, otherwise known as Knowland Park. Thus, Thomas and Miller decided to name the boy Knowland.
The thing is, the way they tell this story, this sounds like one of the easiest and most painless deliveries we've ever heard of. The kid just kind of slipped out onto some paper towels after a few minutes of the mother feeling "uncomfortable." Some ladies have it easy, we suppose.
