Hi/lo entertainment options for your evening. First, an acclaimed bear spinning excellent dance tunes on Market Street. Very divey. Very gay. Very boss. Next, a swank social scene at the Fairmont. Very uppercrust. Very polished. Very networky. You decide.
Every second Saturday of the month, national treasure Bus Station John headlines at "Love Will Fix It" at the Hot Spot. A regular at Aunt Charlie's Lounge, Mr. John's latest club night, according to SF Weekly, is "[d]esigned to show off an extensive collection of late '70s and early '80s R&B (think Chaka Khan and Shalamar), it's an intimate affair with soulful music, enthusiastic dancers, and — perhaps most importantly — no cell phones." This place is not for assholes. You've been warned. The Hot Spot, 1414 Market (at 10th Street), 10 p.m., $5
On the flip side, might we offer you a swank party full of young networking types? If so, check out the 7th Annual San Francisco Social. Except an open top-shelf bar, a surprise live band, a live collage by artist Derek Gores, a photo booth, free food arranged delicately on tiny plates. All proceeds go to benefit San Francisco’s Larkin Street Youth Services. The Fairmont, 950 Mason (at California), 9 p.m.
