In a race fraught with controversies, London Breed, executive director of the African American Art and Culture Complex, won San Francisco's District 5, which represents the Fillmore, the Haight, and Western Addition. Incumbent Mayor Ed Lee-appointee Christina Olague came in second, while Julian Davis, weighed down by sexual harassment allegations, came in third.
Breed was viewed as the moderate in a race filled with progressives. "The pettiness of politics is over and it’s time to move forward," Breed told SF Bay Guardian shortly after winning Tuesday's election.
Another new face on the Board of Supervisors will MIGHT be Norman Yee, who is most famous for photoshop work. It's still a close race, with FX Crowley heading from behind.
Eric Mar and David Chiu held onto their D1 and D3 seats, respectively.
