Though his face is more and more recognizable in these our modern smartphone times, Michael Bauer remains one but a few anonymous restaurant critics left in the city. On Friday, August 4, Bauer will make appear behind a screen for an intimate interview with restaurateur Drew Nieporent (Nobu, Rubicon, Tribeca Grill) to talk about his esteemed career, his reviewing process, his food cravings, and more. You should check it out, too, as he is most enjoyable. In this weekend's review of Central Kitchen, which he gave a respectable 2.5 stars, Bauer raised an eyebrow over his waiter's aggressively casual sporting of "rolled-up jean cutoffs, a Bill Cosby-style sweater, a T-shirt."
Anyway, his appearance should be a must for all media types into the Bay Area's high art of consuming and digesting nourishment. Tickets are $35.
It's all a part of SF Chefs week, which kicks off tonight and leads up to grand tasting events in Union Square. In addition to Bauer's first-ever in-person interview, a slew of other classes, demos, and parties.
