A big rig on its way to the Port of Oakland at 5 a.m. this morning, just arrived from Long Beach, suffered a sudden engine fire that basically reduced the truck to a pile of molten metal.
The I-880 off-ramp at Market Street was closed for about an hour this morning as a result but it is back open. The driver reported hearing a "boom" from the engine as he was exiting the freeway, and when he pulled over to check it out, the whole front of the truck went up in flames. He was able to get out uninjured. See more pictures via NBC's video below.
