A big rig on its way to the Port of Oakland at 5 a.m. this morning, just arrived from Long Beach, suffered a sudden engine fire that basically reduced the truck to a pile of molten metal.

The I-880 off-ramp at Market Street was closed for about an hour this morning as a result but it is back open. The driver reported hearing a "boom" from the engine as he was exiting the freeway, and when he pulled over to check it out, the whole front of the truck went up in flames.
