An drive-by shooting in the Bayview Sunday morning ended in five arrests and a confiscated AR-15 assault rifle, the Examiner reports today. The drive-by went down near the intersection of Hawes Street and Shafter Avenue just before 8 a.m. Victims in the area told police that a vehicle drove up with "a large gun sticking out of the window" and left two vehicles peppered with bullet holes.

No one was injured in the shooting, but the suspects fled to an apartment three blocks away on the 1100 block on Palou Avenue. One suspect, a known gang member, was seen leaving the apartment and was detained along with four others. In a closet inside the apartment cops found the AR-15 assault rifle, which was reportedly stolen from Sacramento, along with a loaded magazine and an illegal, high-capacity 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

Anyway, SFPD Captain Paul Chignell of the Bayview Station sounds excited about the confiscated weaponry. In the station's latest newsletter, Capt. Chignell called the 13 weapons his station has lifted off of perps in the last 30 days his, "Lucky 13!"

A day after the drive-by bust, however, the Bayview saw the city's 27th homicide of 2012 when a 22-year old victim died from a gunshot wound to the head.
