Oh, Panda, say it ain't so. SF Giants hitter and third baseman Pablo Sandoval (not to be confused with Melky Cabrera) was named as a suspect in an alleged sexual assault that occurred last week at a resort hotel in Aptos. According to reports, a woman "met a small group of people that included Sandoval" at a downtown Santa Cruz hotel on Thursday night. Later, the group moved the party to Seascape Beach Resort, which is where the assault reportedly took place. The woman in question filed the complaint at 4:25 a.m. on Friday.
When asked about the sexual assault, Sandoval's attorney, Eric Geffon, explained to the Chronicle that it was "consensual, personal relationship of a sexual nature" and that Pablo "fully cooperated with the Sheriff's Department." He wasn't arrested.
Some of of his fans, however, couldn't care less about it. One Pandafile, Quinn Moran, explained to ABC 7, "Pablo's been a pillar of the community. He's been a great guy his entire time in San Francisco. There's no doubt in my mind that whatever's been said about him will all be cleared up." But some aren't so sure. Over the weekend when Sandoval went to bat against the Ports, an A's farm club, there was a "smattering of boos mixed with the cheers."
The fan favorite recently signed a $17 million contract. He is currently on the disabled list.
