It's all the rage on the 'nets right now: Tim Burton's trailer for his film adaptation of '60s/early 70s television melodrama Dark Shadows is on its way to theaters this summer. It stars Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, and Depp has said that he was so obsessed with the character as a kid that he wanted to be him and now he gets to be.
The movie also stars Michelle Pfeiffer (!) and Helena Bonham Carter, and rather than stick to the overly earnest, spooky and atmospheric drama of the original cult series, Burton is going to comedy here, clearly. That's likely to make some Dark Shadows obsessives (like the people who attend this annual convention, which was covered once on This American Life) upset. But, uh, how can it not be a comedy, we ask you?
