The suspect in the murder of 67-year-old Peter Cukor over the weekend believed that he was psychic and that he could find his fiancé on the victim's property. Cukor's wife has already said in a statement that she witnessed part of the attack, in which the suspect, 23-year-old Daniel Jordan Dewitt, ultimately smashed a flower pot over Cukor's head.

Perhaps "psychic" was just Dewitt's word for the voices in his head, which told him to enter Cukor's front gate in search of Zoey, the alleged fiancé. Dewitt admitted to being on the property and looking through the windows of the house.

As the Tribune reports:

Peter Cukor apparently called police at 8:45 p.m. to report a man in his garage. The victim told Dewitt to get off his property. He then came through their front gate which leads to the front door, the statement said.

Again Cukor told him to leave and he left. Cukor then walked to the fire station not far from his home. When he returned, Dewitt attacked him, the statement said.

When police arrived and searched the area, they found Dewitt at the corner of Shasta Road and Park Gate Road. Dewitt had fresh blood on his hands, sweatshirt, pants and shoes and the knuckles on his right hand were swollen, according to the statement.

As reported earlier, DeWitt had a history of mental illness and incarceration, and had recently gone off his meds while in jail. He had been trying to treat himself through diet and exercise.
