Our inbox is simply littered—littered!—with invitations to openings and galas and VIP-ness and other very important things happening this Sunday. Events where media types, like your SFist editor, enjoy getting tipsy to the tits. Alas, we cannot RSVP oui to any of them. Why? Because the Golden Globes are on Sunday, you clod. How did you not know that? You are in California, you should know this already. Whether cooking meth in Grass Valley or mainlining meth in The Salton Sea, it's your duty as a Californian to take time to honor this unofficial fledgling state holiday: Golden Globes Sunday. (Yes, we know they're bestowed by the inane Foreign Press Association, but the Globes, at they're very core, are sun-kissed Hollywood magic!) And what better way to watch the blood diamond-dipped festivities than inside a theater in the Richmond District?
For a mere $5 (buy tickets in advance here) you get to join other fun-loving moviegoers at the Balboa Theatre on Sunday, January 15 for the 69th Golden Globes. Doors open at 3:00pm for the Red Carpet pre-show, the Golden Globes ceremony itself begins at 5pm. And the entire reason to watch this shit is to watch the pre-show. Watching TV and film people mingle in the same space is a rare and awkward treat.
Also, the Golden Globes will be projected in High Definition on our big-screen and the sound will be streaming in Dolby Stereo through a special Meyer Sound system. We don't know exactly what that means, but you're sure to hear every gasp and see each eyeroll as Ricky Gervias tosses out some harsh bits like he did last year.
Among this year's nominees? Not Melissa McCarthy for her revelatory turn in Bridesmaids. And with that, all of this year's nominees can burn in hell.
Have fun! And don't forget your flasks for extra merriment!
