Thanks to a "stubborn weather pattern", the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has declared today, Monday December 19th, as the seventh Spare the Air day of the winter season. Seven days without wood burning is a new record for the BAAQMD, and we have this recent windless spat of cold air to blame.
Just as a handy reminder: the winter Spare the Air alert means burning of any solid fuels, including those duraflame logs you picked up at Walgreens or that couch you picked up off the street, is banned until further notice.
We know you're probably freezing to death in your apartment with overnight lows touching 40 degrees, but your neighbors with respiratory conditions and smokers who have already spent years lightly charring the insides of their lungs will thank you.
