Ta-da! A real Christmas miracle has occurred in San Jose, where the Vargas family has been coping with out of pocket costs related to 51-year-old Maria Vargas' cancer treatments after a misdiagnosis at a Kaiser Hospital. After the barrage of bad news, a tiny ray of hope literally appeared on the Vargas family doorstep in the form of a sack of avocados with a $10,000 anonymous cashier's check stashed inside.
Mrs. Vargas still has a long road to recovery. She and her family have been protesting outside of the Santa Theresa Kaiser Hospital for weeks, trying to convince the doctors who misdiagnosed a tumor in her uterus to adopt a treatment she received from a clinic in Texas, but as the old adage goes: when life hands you $10,000 in a bag of avocados, make cancer treatment guacamole.
