Although members of Occupy SF voted last week to reject the city's offer to move to 16th and Mission, some campers thought they might find support among the working-class denizens of the Mission District. As it turns out, folks in the Mission District can get NIMBY-righteous too.

Supervisor Jane Kim, whose District 6 includes the little corner of the Mission where Mayor Lee wanted to relocate the Occupy Camp, told the Chronicle's Mustache 1 and Mustache 2 that the neighbors are concerned: "They aren't sure what it will mean in terms of cleanliness and safety," Kim said, basically echoing every concern about camping in public parks that has been raised to date.

Roberto Hernandez, a community activist in the Mission, explained that he and his neighbors generally support the Occupy movement, but they don't support Mayor Lee trying to unload the camp on their neighborhood without consulting the locals first: "Not one meeting to ask us what we might think," Hernandez explained. "We have enough problems here in the Mission." Mayor Lee, on the other hand, didn't think consulting the neighborhood was necessary before the Occupy group accepted the city's relocation offer.
