A small group of East Bay Occupy supporters hopes to put their message in front of thousands of Chronicle subscribers by taking out a full-page ad in the Bay Area's paper of record. The ad itself will be a version of The 99%'s Deficit Proposal, a plan to create jobs and fix the economy drafted up by members of Occupy Washington DC after a Congressional Super Committee's failed to produce their own.
Funds for the project are being raised through Loudsauce, the same San Francisco-based crowdsourced fundraising platform that helped put an Occupy Wall Street ad on national television. With a little over 24 hours left before the campaign closes, the group has raised over $6,200 of the $8,500 they need to put their ad in a main section of the Chronicle. (Also, in case you were wondering how much the Chronicle is selling full-page ads for these day, well there you go.)
As for the reason behind pushing this message through print media rather than Occupy's usual online methods, the group explains:
We know that many in the mainstream in the Bay Area are waiting to see something concrete from the Occupy Movement and some are impatient and losing interest or disillusioned about OWS.
Meanwhile, here's Keith Olbermann, explaining the 99%'s proposal on Countdown a few weeks back:
